Tech and Change

30.04.18

Technology Define:
Technology is the creative process that utilises tools, resources and systems to solve problems. It also enhances control over natural and man-made environments to improve our lives.

(S) Recently my buddy and I had to compare ways that technology has changed the way we do things now in the modern society. (E) We researched the ways machines and technology have changed things we do because we need some ideas to help us created out the presentation. (E) Below we have shown how we went from reading the newsletter and discovering things around the world, or in our country, to watching the news and listening to people report events. (L) The outcome I had for working on this presentation was really good because it has made me look at the way we have advanced more in this society and the way a piece of technology can make a difference.

For Example:

We use to read the news on pieces of paper.

Now we watch the news on T.V.

This is just one of the many ways that technology has changed the way we do things.

04.05.18

So today we had to write paragraphs based on the following questions down below. Most of what I wrote about was either from experience or stuff that I have seen. I think what I have written a lot of people will be able to understand and relate too, teachers/students in particular.

Are students addicted to their cellphones?

(S) During school time there is a majority of students who tend to use their cellphones in class but does that mean all student that do, are addicted to it? (E) I think it's not necessarily the cell phone itself because it's more the apps downloaded onto the device that draws the student's attention to their phones instead of focusing during class. (E) When a student is addicted to their device there are signs that show they are (e.g they hesitate to hand over or put away the device, they are constantly on their phones during class, they become defiant against teachers demand. (L) Could this become a problem or is it a problem now?

If so, is that problem?
(S) If students are continuously getting told to put their phones away in class, then yes this is a
problem. How? (E) Students need to focus on their work because if they miss a crucial piece
of information they could possibly fail their final exams, or miss the marks they need to pass their
NCEA levels. (E) If I did not focus in class and gave more of my attention to my device, then I am very sure  I would fail all most of my exams and assessments. (L) So yes I do believe this is a problem and something needs to change.

Human Rights Evaluation/Reflection

13.04.18

Human Rights
For the last several weeks, I have learnt multiple things about Human Rights under the topics of:
-Child Labor
-Child Soldiers
-Human Trafficking

These particular topics have made me view the world in a different way because I am angrier with how others were treated and how they weren't given their rights to life.
Some of the rights they had lost were:
-The right to education
-The right to freedom
-Their equality with us

People were judged by the colour of their skin. These people suffered severely. This makes me sad because slavery is still happening today. I am grateful that I have been brought up in a place where I was not forced to work, or that I was given my human rights; Yet again I feel guilty that maybe it should have been us or people who deserved it. This is something that is very unfortunate for others, and the saddest thing is that parents have to sell their children into that world in order to make money for survival.
Some kids feel that they should help their families so they will even volunteer themselves into this world of slavery.

In some places in the world, slavery is accepted by their governments. We should feel protected,  secure and have trust in our governments but these countries cannot see the harm they are causing to others lives because they are only focused on their personal needs or wants.
Millions and more are living in poverty.

I have now learned that too many people take things for granted. We are too worried about getting our nails done, buying some new products, buying a new car, and the worse thing is those products are made by slaves and our money doesn't even go to them. But we aren't trying to stop the problems in the world, why? Because as far as we know it's on the other side of the world and it doesn't concern us. But it should, because these are people, they bleed just like us, they have feelings just like us and they deserve a chance to live just like us! I think we should stand up for these people and try to make a difference in the world.

This term I have learnt a lot and I am glad that I have because I wouldn't have thought of the world differently as I have now.

Iqbal paragraph

1 of 3 paragraphs

How were Iqbal's Human Rights affected?

Paragraph 1

Iqbal was a boy from Pakistan who became a symbol of abuse in child labor. Iqbal was given into child labor at a very young. This affected his right to education and his freedom in life, because he wasn’t able to learn and bae educated, Iqbal spent his childhood working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week with 30 minute breaks. Iqbal was spending so long working and trying to help provide for his family, that his childhood was taken to soon and he wasn’t able to play, learn or interacto with other kids and form friendship. This is one of the reasons why Iqbal human rights were taken away from him and why he is a symbol of abuse in child labor.

Chicken Leg Dissection

Aim: In this dissection, you will locate and describe the various tissues and structures of the drumstick and thigh of a chicken.

Materials: Chicken drumstick, with thigh, dissecting probe, scapel, dissecting scissors, paper towels, forceps, dissecting tray, gloves, disinfectant hand wash and spray.

Safety:
1. Wear gloves
2. Do not put anything in your mouth (fingers, pens, etc) during the dissection.
3. Wash your hand thoroughly atthe end of the dissection woth anitbacterial soap and hot water.
Ensure youe hands are dried after washing.
4. Spray surfaces with antibacterial soap.

Procedure:
1. Place the chicken leg on a dissecting tray and examine (look at ) the exterior features. The tough outer layer is called the epidermis (or skin). The small bumps covering the skin are where the feathers were attached.

2.Examine the lower leg. This is called the drumstick and it is the equivalent of your lower leg. The large muscle at the back of your leg is the same as your gastrocnemius. It also includes two bones-the tibia (the larger one) and the fibia (the thinner and smaller one).

3. Examine the upper leg. On both a chicken and a human this part is called the thigh. It contains a larger bone called  the femur.

4. Carefully pull your skin off by sliding it down and off the lower leg. You may need to use  your scalprl to remove it, but be careful not to cut any muscle tissue.

5. The yellowish material under the skin is fat (adipose).

6.The muscles of the leg, like all muscles, work in bundles. Separate a bundle of muscle by inserting your thumb into the muscles of the lower leg. You will notice that the muscle bundle is covered in a silvery lining called the  fascia and this makes it hard to separate. But if you push hard enough you eill tear it and that separating muscle bundled is a lot easier.

7. At either end of the muscles, you will see white cord-like tissue. These cords are called tendons. Tendons attach muscle to bone.

8. Using the scapel, carefully remove all the muscles from the lower leg. Using your dissection probe to examine any blood vessels you find and try to determine which muscles the blood is supplied to.

9.Near the bone you should see thin, thread-like strands. These are nerves.

10. Using the dissection scissors, cut across the tendons that join the muscles to the bones. Be careful not to cut any ligaments that attach bone to bone. You should end up with all the bones still attached to Each other, but no muscle tissue present.

11. Move the bomes around the joints. The main joint between the bones of the lower leg and the femur is a hinge joint like the ome in your knee. Note now the bones can move only in one plane.

12. Using your scapel, carefully cut the ligaments, keeping the bones together.

13. In the joint  between the bones is a piece of cartilage. Cartilage allows joints to move smoothly and protects the bones against shocks to the body part.

14. Break one Bone in half and examine the marrow. This is where blood cells are made.

15 clean up your work area. Ensure you clean your bench using antibacterial sprat. Wash your hand thoroughly eith plenty of antibacterial soap and water.

Aerobic Respiration

Aim: To release the energy within a 'cheezel' by burning it.

Equipment: Bunsen burner, Cheezel, Scissor tongs, heatproof mat and light it.

Method
1. Place your bunsen on a heatproof mat and light it.

2. Gently hold the Cheezel in the scissors tongs.

3 Ignite the Cheezel by placing one side of it in the bunsen flame.

4. When the Cheezel is alight, ensure you hold it over your heatproof mat.

Observations:

Science Anaerobic Respiration

Aim: To demonstrate the effects of anaerobic respiration (muscle fatigue.

Equipment: A spring-loaded clthes peg

Method1. Hold the clothes peg as shown in the diagram below
-diagram down below

2.Relax your fingers so that the peg closes all the way.
3. Squeeze your thumb and forefinger so the peg is fully open.

4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 as quickly as you can until you experience muscle fatigue.

Explain what type of respiration yoyr cells are using:

(A) at the beginning of the exercise.

Aerobic

(B)at the end of the exercise.

Anaerobic

Write an equation to summarise anaerobic respiration.

Explain why anaerobic respiration is considered 'wasteful' respiration.

Because the total energy yield from each glucose molecule is only a fraction of what is released when compared to aerobic respiration.

Harriet Tuban

Here is my research om Harriet Tuban and all the information I found.
