Creative writing Term 3

Term 3

Creative Writing

The beginning
As I stomped and strutted along the cramped up streets of London, the loud and irritating sound of kids playing soar throughout the wind. The mourning of families as loved ones pass on from the deadly illnesses brings discomfort to my ear. The familiar sounds of pitter and pattering from old leaking pipes form small puddles that splash to the ground. I blink as if everything is in slow motion and I could feel my heart beating faster and my head starting to pound harder. I angrily say to myself “I must get out of here!”

I stand assertively looking for a place to go. My family sent me out job hunting so we can hussle enough money together in order to pay weekly fees. My family and I struggle extremely. Ever since my dad fell ill money's been more of an issue than ever. Mum’s constantly working late while also trying to raise my siblings Jonathan age 9 and Henry age 3. I take care of my father most of the time, and I do everything I can to help provide enough medicine for our father and I’d often start preparing meals for my family.

After standing on the streets with a face full of aggression I slowly look down and below my feet is the daily newspaper. At the top of my shoe something caught my attention It was advertising job opportunities/New life but the only problem was it was set out in another country and the boat leaves tomorrow at dawn.

I barge into the front door shouting “Mother come quick!” my loud shout caused her to jump. “I have a way we can make more money but you’ll have to be open to the idea” I suggested “Alright, what is it?” she responded” Before I began to answer her question I quickly pulled out the newspaper from behind my back “Please be open to the idea mother. You’ll have to decide now before it’s too late.” I replied. My mother looked at the newspaper and stared at me for the slightest second. I didn’t know what she was thinking, but by look on her face I knew what she was going to say… “Pack your things right now, and you will be out before the boat set sails.” she said happily. She explained how she was so happy that an opportunity had come along but also felt responsible for myself having to be shipped out in order to support the family.

 Later the next day
I found it very difficult saying my goodbyes to my family. My mother cried as if I had died. A couple days past and my hunger grew largely, I could feel the aching rumbles of my stomach. Having to live in the steerage part of the boat was one of the worse things that could ever happen to me, yet I was so grateful for another chance. At night when I laid sound asleep the water would smash against the side of my bed drowning my belongings. I could feel my hand being dipped into the water as it hand hung from the side of the bed.

 Months later
I began to regret boarding this boat. Many illness grew and I watched as people died right before my eyes. The most painful thing about watching them die was knowing that they came boarding this boat for another chance at life, but were not fortunate enough to make it. I bonded with many people on the boat, discovering things we had in common and being able to relate to others was one of the perks being on that boat. I found great interest in their lives.

 Arriving
As I heard the horn of the boat my ears perked at the sound. I quickly run to the front of the boat and the land I see amazed and paralyzed my position for a moment. There were trees, grass, bushes, flowers. I didn’t believe what I was seeing, so I clenched my fist and gripped tightly to the thought of a new life!

Chapter 13

1. All the teenagers have a specific role to play in their group. Describe the roles each teenager plays?
Robyn Chris would cruise around town looking for people in hiding for useful information.
Kevin and Corrie, they will go to the showground. The rest a smuggling in food.
Ellie: Leader- Leads with ideas
Homer: Leader-action
Chris: committed to helping the group
Fi: Princess
Robyn: Medic
Lee: Thinks logically and remains calm.
Kevin:  He sees think Black and white.

2. According to what the teenagers hear on Corrie's radio, why would America be best not to get involved in Australia’s struggle?
America would find herself in the longest, costliest and bloodiest war in all of her history.

3. Why is Australia being invaded?

  • They are fighting for the land.
  • The imbalances within the region.
  • Too much for Australia and not enough in other countries.

 4. A reader can infer many things from the snippet of news heard over Corrie’s radio. Which country or countries are likely to have invaded Australia?
(Don't know)

5. How are the prisoners being treated?
From what the group have heard they are most likely to be okay and just being imprisoned.

 6. What do Kevin and Robyn argue about? Do you think Robyn’s points are fair?
Kevin is really angry about people invading and Robyn is understanding of their point of view why. I do think Robyn's reason is fair because shes just being understanding on why they are doing it but it doesn't mean she thinks it's okay.

1. "Paradise of Hell" is an oxymoron. What does it mean?
It means that it means something to them.
2. Kevin's hatred of the invaders is quite extreme. Why do you think he's so angry?
Kevin turns his fear into angry.
3.What does the group decide they must do at this point?
Set up a base camp and get more food.
4. Despite the fact that the teenagers are in the midest of a war zone, evading enemy soldiers and planning guerilla

Tomorrow when the war began POEM

23.08.18

Musical:
Homer

Level up-Ciara
I chose this song because no girls could ever meet Homers expectations and he'd always let them keep making fun of him cause he did not care.

In my feelings-Drake
This song talks about a guy asking if this girl loves him and if she would do things for him, which is probably what Homer is thinking like, does this girl like me? Does she want me? Questions like thoughs.

Lean on my-Bill Withers
Homer is always the person coming up with things and a person Ellies goes to when she's having a difficult time. Homer is showing a great example of a leader and he is very needed by the group.

Let me love you-Justin Bieber
Ellie feelings for Homer is intensifying quickly and Homer has paid much attention to it because he has been busy trying to survive.

Poem:
*BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
BANG! BANG!* Shots Fired faster than the flash!
If they hear or see us we're gonna get a bash!
The might even snipe us so we have to be fast.
Hurry and lite the petrol and make the mower blast!!!
The match won't lite and Corrie is by far not ready to fight.
The sound of the match sizzles in the night when the petrol is once lite we run for our lives.
The soldiers scream in pain, I wish I was deaf but we need to keep running or this will also be the cause of our death. We were all in shock because of what happened, but we need to stay positive because it's only just the beginning...

Chapter 12:

1. “They say teenagers can sleep all day”. Is this true? Do you agree? Does Ellie still see herself as a typical teenager?'
I think it is true because like that's the kind of typical lifestyle Ellie can relate too.

2.  Ellie’s dream at the beginning of the chapter is rather nonsensical, as dreams are wont to be. Is there any meaning to it? Try and explain what Ellie’s subconscious could be thinking about: why is her dad cooking for the whole town? Why did Father Cronin ignore Ellie’s greeting?
Why was Corrie 8 years old again? Why were they sailing off on a boat? Why was Lee undressing?
Ellie's dream might be telling her that maybe her dad is cooking for the town and the people who are locked up with him. I think Father Cronin ignored Ellie because she sinned.
To get away from everything that is happening.

Ellie's dream is probably letting her know that she has some feelings for Lee because she dreamt about him in a sexual way with him undressed.

3. Why is it so terrible that Chris falls asleep while on sentry duty? How does Ellie react? Why do you think she reacts this way? How does she feel about her reaction later?

They didn't know when someone comes to the show like one of the soldiers, then they will be in trouble. She reacted by screaming and getting angry at Chris. She reacted this way because she worries about her friends and everyone there. She felt bad since she said a lot of bad things to him which can make him feel bad.

   4. Back in Hell, Ellie’s dreams are far more ominous. Explain why Ellie is dreaming of her fears.

She mostly like fears that something could possibly happen if they don't do anything to soldiers or invaders.

Composition techniques

22.08.18

-What you have learnt about composing so far?
I have learnt how hard it is to create a song or a song advertising something. I've realised you need to make sure your lyrics fit the beat of the song and It can sound really off if they don't.

-What is your favourite technique that you have tried and why?
I enjoyed creating a Christmas jingle because in the end we finally manage to create something after a lot of hard work.

-Which type of composition do you want to try for your assessment and why?
I'm not really sure because I have a mixture of feelings towards it all and I don't know what one I like yet.

My simple show

Migration
A week ago my class and I started learning about migration and the negative and positive reasons why migration happens. After a few days of learning about this topic, we were asked to create a presentation explaining what Migration is. I decided I would create a presentation using My Simple Show and write about what causes migration and what migration is. In my show, I talk about the push and pull factors of migration and I also point out some positive things about migration e.g better opportunities in other counties, but I also pointed out some negative things that force people to move.

Down below is the link to My Simple Show.

Tomorrow when the war began

07.08.18

Chapter Seven:

3 Questions Group.

1. If your parents were captured in a situation like this, would they have been 'sensible', or would there have been violence?
I think my dad would probably be violent because he doesn't like to be under anyways control, and my mum would be sensible about it because she doesn't have that strong personality so they balance each other out.
2. Is the decision to split into smaller groups a wise one? Give reasons.
I think it is a good idea. Because if they were all captured there would be no-one left to help them.
3. What does Lee mean when he says 'we might have to make some ugly choices?'
He might be saying they will do anything to survive such as killing a soldier.

Tomorrow when the war began

03.08.18

Chapter: Five

1. What does Corrie’s choice in career say about her character?
In the text, we are able to identify that Corrie is a kind, caring, generous person.

2. The group’s ability to avoid arguing with each other is rare- do you think that there would have been more drama if you and your friends went bush for a week?
I don't think there would be any drama unless someone wasn't like helping us with anything. We would probably be enjoying all the freedom we have and exploring new things together there would be no need for bickering.

3. Why do you think Ellie and Lee feel uneasy just before their return to Wirrawee from the Bush?
Because Ellie and Lee were having deep conversations and they started to question about the war and those planes that had flown past them during the night.

 4. What do you predict will await the group back home, why do you think this?
At first, I just predicted that they were going to come home to everything normal but it turns out things were completely different.

Chapter: Six

1. What is the first sign that something is wrong with Ellie’s house?
When Ellie had seen her dogs they were quiet and dead. Ellie went into her house and everything was quiet, there was no food set on the table nothing had been touched.

2. Who is the first person to really realise what is happening?
Corrie, because when Ellie called Corrie to do something Corrie was already moving towards that way while the others stood in shock.

3. What is Ellie’s reaction to this person’s caution? Why do you think she reacts this way?
Because no one was doing anything Ellie was making connections to fast which were leading her to think of many probabilities of how or why things are like this.

4. How is the pace in this chapter different from the chapters before?
Everythings is a lot more intense and things are moving a lot faster to build up the tension.

5. If you were in this situation, would you test the radio or not? Give reasons for your thinking
I wouldn't even bother to test it because my headspace would be in many places so I most probably won't even notice it.

6. Do you think the way the teenagers reacted to the realisation that Australia may have been invaded or at war was realistic? Why/why not
Yes, because there was no one around, power was out, everything was quiet.

7. What possible reasons exist that could spark war or invasion of Australia?
The planes that they spotted.
