Chapter Four Questions
1. Do you think the way they handled the snake incident was appropriate? What could they have done differently?
I liked how they handled it because they did not harm the snake.
2. Ellie claims that ‘Hell’ is only a label and that people label things all the time, often ignoring or overlooking certain labelled places or things. She then comes to the conclusion that ‘Hell was people’. Is she right? What’s your opinion, on labelling and Hell?
I think that she was right because she couldn't understand how wild could be hell and that people would have to be the ones to make it hell.
3. What was especially peculiar about the planes that flew over Hell? ‘Their ------, their ------, their----- frightened me.’ Do these characteristics have any significance?

4. Corrie and Kevin are the only couples in the group, but the trip was bound to bring friends closer. So why does Homer’s interest in Fi seem so odd to Ellie?
Homer's interest in Fi caught Ellie in surprise because to them Homer seemed like an emotionless guy and is known to not have any feelings for any girls but Fi might be the one.
5. Fi brushes off the planes coming back from Commemoration Day. Why do you think the planes were flying over Wirrawee? Robyn claims there were dozens and dozens of planes flying over them. What is Lee’s response? Is his suggestion reasonable?
Lee thought that it was probably WWlll Lee's suggestion is reasonable because they are cut off from the world and have completely no idea what's going on.

Spiritual well-being
- What did you think spiritual wellbeing was before you started this unit?
I didn't really know or understand what spiritual well-being was, to be honest, every time I
heard the word spiritual I'd all just think of ghosts.
- What is Spiritual wellbeing about?
Spiritual well-being is about things like your beliefs and identity. Spiritual well-being is about knowing who you are and the things you desire to achieve in life.
- Why does everyone have different spiritual wellbeing?
We all have different beliefs and goals in life. Us being individuals have different ways of viewing things.
- What area of Spiritual wellbeing that you need to improve on and why?
I think I need to improve more on myself and trying to really get to know who I am as a person or where I come from. I want to make goals for myself but I really need to try and achieve thoughs goals.
- What are your dreams?
I dream to build my own house one day and be successful in life. I want to go to university and study to become a Physician or go into architecture designing

Tomorrow when the war began
1. Why does Robyn think they are the only people ever to have gone into Hell? He is questioning why anyone would bother to come down here, and no-one they know has come to this place.
2. Why do you think the valley is called Hell? Maybe because there's like rumours about a man named Hermit who murdered his family and it's a really dangerous place to be.
3. Why must the teenagers seem like visitors from hell to the wild things living in the clearing? How is this ironic? They made a lot of noise which is really common for the wild livings to hear.
4. What picture of Kevin do we get in this chapter?
Kevin is caring and sensitive. Kevin also had a bad habit of breaking branches off trees instead of walking a few extra metres to pick up dead wood.
5. What does Ellie liken Fi to? Do you think this is a fair assessment of her character? Use examples from the text to support your thinking. When Ellie said he was like an exotic butterfly I think it was fair of her to say because she's basically saying like where has he been and stuff and how new he is to things. Almost like he just comes out of nowhere and doesn't really know of such things.
6. At times Ellie switches her narration from retelling the story to commenting about her life in the present - why do you think the author has chosen to write in this style?
To help remind us like this is in the past aswell.

Did you still understand the story without the dialogue?
I understood it because the way the music was used helped express the mood and I was able to understand how each character felt.
How did the music add to telling the story?
The music was really helpful. When the music sped up you were able to tell that something exciting was happening. When the music was going at a slow pace and the chords were held longer I knew that this was a sad moment in the scene.
Write about a scene that you found particularly interesting?
I really enjoyed the flying scene because watching it made me feel happy and there's a lot of freedom and happiness in the scene and the music especially made it seem more amazing and like a really beautiful moment.

Assessment: The Hang Him up Scene.

Assessment Term 2:
Hang Him up
During the week 10Hy were given an assessment to write an Essay based on 3 techniques John.G Avildsen used to film in the Hang him up scene. Down below is my essay and what the 3 techniques were.
Introduction
During the Apartheid, many people were killed and not given the rights to live freely. In 1992 John G. Avildsen Directed a movie called The Power of One which was based on the Apartheid and the actions of one young South African boy named P.K. As you watch the films you can see how the Director has used particular Techniques to show and describe the mood, and help the audience get a good understanding of what the Apartheid was like. In one of the scenes (The Hang Him up scene) John used several techniques which were, Low angle shot, mid shot, and a close-up. I am going to talk about the following techniques that were used to film the Hang him up scene.
Body
In the Hang Him Up scene, the director uses a low angle shot of Jaapie (a student) standing assertively with one arm raised in the air, as he shouts “Heil Hitler” after Jaapie had killed P.K’s (another student) chicken. The director uses a low angle shot to make Jaapie seem powerful as he stands strongly amongst the crowd raising his arm screaming “Heil Hitler”, with a feeling of pride in his choices. The director’s purpose of using the low angle shot is to help express the mood and outline that Jaapie is feeling the thrill of Victory and power. Which is shown when Jaapie yells “Heil Hitler”. This makes the audience feel as if we are in P.K’s position and we are feeling helpless, and very vulnerable. It’s made us anxious as to what will happen to P.K next. This aspect can be compared to when the director used a close up in another scene to show how scared and vulnerable Geel Piet (a prisoner) was feeling as Sergeant Borman held him against the wall with his baton. This makes us feel the same feelings as we are feeling in this scene.
An addition to the film the director also uses a close-up shot of P.K showing the tension that had been built up as Jaapie had just targeted P.K. For instance, the director has used a close-up in the scene of P.K with blood smeared across P.K’s face as his eyes had begun to water after Jaapie slapped P.K in the face causing him to bleed and then swiping the blood across P.K’s face. The director uses a close up to help portray P.Ks fear and also his bravery as he stood there being very intimidated amongst the crowd and the terrible silence that was interrupted by the sound of Jaapies hand slapping P.K’s face. This helps us as an audience understand the loneliness and helplessness that is shown as P.K has no one to run to for help. We are feeling really dependant on good luck and hope that someone will be his saviour. This reminds me of certain scenes in the film, where there is a lot of vulnerability shown with the black Africans and the need for help against the white Afrikaners.
Another technique the director has used is a long shot of the students in the school lined up, holding ropes that were tied to P.K as the Principal walked in, while Jaapie standing in the middle of the situation. This is demonstrated when the principal walks in and Jaapie Botha stands staunchly as he salutes the principle standing opposite in his direction. The students are standing in silence as they are holding the ropes while P.K is hanging in the air with blood running down his head. This technique has been used by the director to help show the audience the lack of respect and incivility that is characterized by the students and Jaapie Botha himself. As an audience we are able to sense the lack of manners and agitation Jaapie is feeling as he has been caught in a horrible act. This scene has reminded me of a scene in the film where, Geel Piet is forced to eat feces of Sergeant Borman’s shoe, because is shows the disrespect this officer is giving a prisoner, which is really awful to watch.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Avildsen uses a mixture of different camera shots to help create tension and really intense the emotions that were shown during the scenes. The director really connected the audience to the characters using these techniques. This helped us understand how these people felt throughout the Apartheid.
