Maths

If there is 21 students in the class, and everyone has to shake hands with everyone else how many handshakes will there be?

There would be 5 groups of 4 and one left on the outside.
each group shakes hands with everyone else in their group, that makes 6 handshakes for each. 6x5=30 1 person from group A. shakes hands with everyone else and that makes 16 handshakes, 16x4=64 handshakes from group A.

 From group B. one person goes around and that makes 12 more handshakes, 12x4=48 handshakes from group B. but they don't shake group A. because they already have.

 A person from group C. then goes around and only shakes 8 peoples hand not including group A. or B. 8x4=32.

 1 person from group D. shakes group E. hands and that makes 4 handshakes, 4x4=16 .

 Group E. can no longer shake any groups hands because the groups have already shaken hands with them.

The outside person then shakes all the groups hand which is 20 handshakes.

Richard Pearse social study assessment

Early Life
Richard Pearse was born on the 3 December 1877
at Waitohi flat in Temuka. Pearse was the fourth
child out of nine children.
Richard Pearse is an ingenious inventor
whose objective was to invent an item that could fly.
Pearse kept in touch with experimentation overseas
through the popular magazine Scientific American.
 This means that there was evidence that Pearse was.
working on ideas for powered flight in 1899, also that
he had built his first two cylinder petrol engine by 1902.
Pearse made his first public flight attempt down Main
Waitohi Road adjacent to his farm.




Work
Richard Pearse was a very intelligent person, but people
would say he was a bit eccentric  which gave him the
nicknames ‘ Mad Pearse’ and ‘Bamboo Dick’  people did
not recognize Richard Pearse work until his death when
George Bolt the founder of Canterbury aero club discovered his work.
Richard Pearse states that he did not achieve proper flight, and also did
not beat the wright brothers who flew their aircraft
on the 17 of December 1903. However people said
that Richard Pearse first flight attempt was the 31
March 1903. Although he did not succeed he kept
going and invented more aircraft's, none of them
in terms of length and control. Richard Pearse invented

a steerable tricycle undercarriage, a variable pitch air screw
made out of metal, wings control and a propeller connected
to the crankshaft of the engine.

        Impact 
Richard Pearse is a man who showed resilience,
no matter how many times he failed he got back up
and worked harder, tried harder, which people act-
ually look up to, they can relate to him and achieve
their goal. Eventually Richard  flew but he did not
gain  control of his aircraft.

As a consumer knowing your rights is very important. If you are reporting a company for the product the have sold you or something you have paid for, make sure the information you are saying is 100% accurate. If you give false information you can be charged for make wrong accusations about a company.
→ be of acceptable of the quality given to you →Make sure you are fit for their purpose → make sure you match their description → match the sample of the product and demonstration of the model →  be supported.

Richard Pearse

Who are they?
Richard Pearse born 3 December 1877, Temuka. Inventor he preformed pioneering experiments in aviation.

What did they create?
Richard Pearse created the first plane ever to fly,  on 31 March 1903, nine months before the Wright brothers flew their first aircraft.

What challenges did he face?
People did not believe Richard Pearse created something that could fly. No one really thought his inventions were going to work. Still to this day people believe the Wright brothers created something that could fly before him. 

What helped it succeed?
Other people started thinking about a new transportation, where they could created something that flew, this succeeded because people wouldn't of thought about creating something that flew until Richard Pearse and the Wright Brothers invented it.

Mixtures:
A mixture, from  different substances, not chemically joined.
Concrete for example ( mixture of cement, sand or gravel, and water. Concrete can be altered by substances that make up the mixture.

Separating Mixtures:
There different substances in mixtures are usually easily separated from one another.
Filtration-Separating a Solid mixed with a Liquid.

Solutions:
When salt or sugar 'disappears' into water, we say that the substance has dissolved in the water.
Some substances don't  dissolve (e.g sand will not dissolve in water).

Concentration:
When comparing solutions, it is important to know how much solute has been dissolved in the solvent. Scientists  use the terms dilute and concentrated to describe how 'strong' a solution is.

Saturation:
A solution will become saturated when no more solute will dissolve in the solvent. A solution that is saturated has a high concentration. If some of the solvent evaporates from a saturated solution, solution becomes super saturated and crystals of solute will start to form.

Separating Solutions:
Although a solution is a mixture, the solute cannot be separated from the solvent by filtration. The solute will simply pass through the filter paper.

Distillation- Separating a Solid Dissolved in a liquid:
Evaporation is a simple technique for separating a solid dissolved in a liquid. We need to trap the solvent as it evaporates and condense it back into a liquid. Scientist call this process distillation.

Chromatography: Separating a Mixture of Coloured Compounds:  Chromatography (chroma- Greek for 'colour' and graphy meaning 'words' or 'pictures'. The pigments separate because they have different solubillities  in a solvent. This means that more soluble pigments are carried faster, and therefore further, by the rising solvent.
