Art progression throughout the year:
Introduction:
Hi, my name is Raven I am a year 11 student at Hornby high school. The purpose of my blog is to show how I progressed throughout my artboard with my accomplishments and my failures. As you read throughout this blog you will notice a lot of things that didn't work out for me and how I overcame those barriers and what I used to overcome them. You will see how I have used my artist models to help inspire me. I struggled with this external due to the fact that I did not have the skills to accomplish my ideas, but through practice and multiple trials, I manage to teach myself the skills that I needed to help me achieve my goal, which was to complete my artboard.

Motivation:
The one thing that kept me going is that I thought about my artist models and how they overcame their barriers. For example, Jerry Uelsmann is an artist who spends months creating an amazing art piece based around surrealism. With most of his art piece, he spent months with trials and errors and finding new ways to help him achieve his goal. In each of his artworks, he made sure that every single thing on his art pieces was deliberate, whether it was tone, figures, and other aspects. Jerry Uelsmann did not give up on his work and that was one of my main motivations to keep going and find new ways to complete my art pieces.

Term 1:
For the first couple of weeks, I was planning out and sketching my ideas and ways that I can incorporate my theme throughout board 1. Below is an image of my board layout that I have sketched out and my measurements for each board piece. I also had to plan out my main idea and theme and the colours, tones, textures, and art media that I was going to use. I had to research an artist model who would help inspire me to create art pieces based on the way they create theirs, and how they do it. By doing this I created a 'Why?' poster this helped me to gather an idea. It was the beginning of my process.  The artist's I chose to use as my inspiration and guide was Jerry Uelsmann, Ray Hammond and Man Ray. I chose these three in particular because they all work with surrealism. The one artist that caught my attention was Jerry Uelsmann I liked his symbolic meanings in his art pieces and how they look so simple and how they tell a story, yet those particular art pieces have been made so precisely and the process of there creations took months of finalising every single piece of detail. But my main inspiration is Jerry Uelsmann.

Here is one of my first ideas which I planned out very thoroughly. My theme is Angels and demons so basically the good and the bad it is also heaven and hell. This idea I originally was just going to have an angel that is leaning up against a tree who is sad and the sadder they get the colder their heart gets and it shows that the angel is vulnerable and weak. Because the angel is vulnerable and weak it easier for darkness to creep up on this angel. My next piece will connect to this art piece because I want to show how when we are down or vulnerable we can be easily influenced and something in us can change.
I spent most of term 1 planning and sketching out ideas as well as cutting out pieces and painting on them as a rough piece of artwork just so I can get a feel and a good understanding of my art pieces. As well as printing out images so I can look at them and use the designs for my wings but change it up a bit.

Here is my first art piece that I am going to use on my board and it’s from my first sketch that I did instead I have chosen to use black in the background so that the white wings of the angel Stand out more and instead of having darkness creeping up on the angel I thought that the idea was really original, so I decided to give the angel two sets of different wings. I like the idea of this because it’s unusual for an angel to change into something dark for example, The devil. A lot of my ideas have come from Jerry Uelsman, he uses dark colours in his artwork and also works around things that aren’t real such as angel and demons. I also like how he will use a dark tone for his background to help enhance the brightness of the subject and help it stand out more.

(I did not end up using this piece but instead, I stuck with the same Idea just changed it. You'll find out more as you continue to read down later in this blog.)

During my art classes, I was also researching other artists and looking into their art pieces. One of our assessments was to find two artists and write about one piece of artwork they have created and how they created their art piece. To see this I will add a link below this text.

On the last week of Term 1, I decided to start on another art piece which I could see from this that my skills were improving and I was getting better at painting. In this art piece, it shows two completely different sides. One being bright which I used a light blue to help lighten the area and then a white so that the colour of the angel was not human-like but looked similar to a human. This was to help show that the angel isn’t a human because their wings aren’t really shown in the art piece.   Above the angels head, I have painted in tree branches with flowers growing on it so you get that sense of life and a warmer feeling coming from this side. On the next side of the art piece is a devil I’ve used a bright red so it sticks out more and I have continued to draw in the tree branches but this time they have no flowers on and are a plain black. We can tell that this is a devil because of its features e.g the horn on their head, the sharp pointy teeth, and their sharp pointy ears.

Term 2:

I have focused on working on my the biggest pieces that are going to go onboard one because then I have more time to work on them as well as finalizing them whereas, my smaller pieces are faster to do. In my first image, I have used a tree as a metaphor of life. I’ve still chosen to use an unusual colour that you wouldn’t see a tree in your everyday life. I’ve chosen to use the colour white for the branches and black as the background that way the focal point which is the tree sticks out more. For the leaves, I used a dark green and then brightened it on top with a nice lime yellow. On the right side, the bottom corner I have drawn in a figure that represents an angel which brings life into this tree. From their hands, I will add in gold springing up into the tree so you can see the energy flowing from the angel into the tree.  The second tree is much darker and you can see that it doesn't have any life as the tree branches dangle down. As you can see there is also an angel who doesn't exactly look happy which is shown by their slouched down position.  I've chosen to use the colours red and black to give it that dark atmosphere, although this an angel you can see he is not happy. The meaning behind this art piece is to help portray the judgement of others. Angels are meant to be something that guides us and protects us. What we do not think about is the fact that everyone has problems and suffers but will put others before themselves. It also shows that when we are affected by something or aren't 100% okay our world around us seems dull. So our mood affects how we see the world and how are days will be with the wrong mindset.  I then decided that I will outline the tree branches in red so that it stands out more and I gave it more of a rough texture to the branches so that it gives it a more realistic look.

Editing/Fixing and making changes: After term 2 I wasn't happy with this art piece down below and I decided I would still use the same idea but I have chosen to add more detail to the wings and change the whole positioning of the angel's body.  By doing this I made sure it was more clear that you can see two completely different types of wings, one symbolising the "devil's" wing and the "angel's" wing. I also decided that I would show the backside of the angel so that you can see where the wings are placed more clearly and it helps show the muscularity of the body. To help me form the shape of the wings, I looked at images of wings and used those images to helo form my wings. Instead of continuing to use paint to complete this art piece, I've decided that I prefer to leave it in pencil that way the art piece has that raw and rough look to it.  I then added charcoal to the art piece and sprayed it with a spray that sets the charcoal to help stop the charcoal from smudging.

Term 3: Creating a New Art Piece: This Art Piece I chose to do is because I wanted to introduce a slight look of what hell could look like and how the devil could look. As you can see in this art piece I used a lot more colours than usual but I wanted it to have that hot bright orange/yellowish fire sky them going on. At the bottom of my artwork, I have taken an idea from one of the images that I researched about for my art history created by Remedios Varo. I used that art piece because it symbolises being "trapped" and I thought that was a perfect thing to use as a way to create my image of hell.
Creating a New Art Piece: Next I began a new piece of art. This piece of art I wanted to keep it more plain and simple because Jerry Uelsmann keeps his art simple, but always has the focal point standing out more than the background and uses darks colours to help the focal point stand out more. This art piece shows half of the devil's body and to help the audience have more clarity to the art piece I made sure to use the colour red for the skin tone and I drew in unusual features to the body such as claws, and the devil's horn. But I want my art pieces of any devil or angels to remain faceless so that the audience can only judge and add their own idea/thought to the art piece themselves. To give it their own identity. In this art piece, I didn't want to leave the background plain black and so I decided I'd add red splashes to the art piece to help set a mood and theme through this art piece. By adding the red splashes it helps to give it more colour but also keeps it from being to plain. I will use this art piece at the top of board 1, to help introduce the idea of the devil and the colour theme.
Creating a New Art piece: Halfway through term three, I cut out two square-shaped size watercolour piece of paper one being slightly small than the other. Next, I ripped up the smaller piece and then I puzzled pieced it back together. After I had puzzled pieced them back together I glued it down onto the bigger size piece of paper. The reason why I decided to rip it up is to continue having the rough look flow throughout the artboard. I then painted the ripped up pieces black and made sure I didn't paint any of the gaps that were in between each piece. After that, I then took a dry brush dipped it in red and roughly painted in between those gaps so that the colour popped and there was texture to show on the edges of those gaps. I wanted to keep this piece simple as I am only using this piece to help show a theme for hell. This art piece will go in the middle of board one in the first section of art, that helps introduce the theme of hell

.

Checking/Planning: I started looking at board 2 and how board 1 links to board 2. I placed down some of my art pieces and worked out how I will place them so that it has a nice consistent flow throughout board 1 and board 2. So at the top of board 1, I want to introduced parts of the devil and hell and also angels aswell. My most recent art piece as well (the one that has two different types of wings) will help to introduce the dry media idea and also combinations of two things combining as one (Good and evil which is projected through the wings) and it gives the audience an idea that throughout my art piece I will combine two things together to make one. Because I want to show that all these things link together. For example, heaven and hell are to completely different ideas, one means good and one means evil but when you combine the two you have earth because that is where heaven and hell are no longer divided because good and evil only exists on Earth. On the middle of board 1, I will section it so that one section introduces the theme of hell and how it looks and the next section introducing the theme of heaven and I think it looks. After that further down board one, I have chosen to create three bigger art pieces and the description for what the first two mean is further up in this blog post. Measuring and cutting out pieces:

I began measuring the draft copies of the shapes and sizes that I have chosen for my art pieces and then measuring them on watercolour paper for my official art pieces and then cutting them out. I took a ruler and I made sure I measured each piece properly. Incase I mucked up my artwork I made sure I had a backup plan which was to cut out multiple pieces of watercolour paper so that there is room for stuff-ups and growth/editing.

Planning out Board 1/2:

Although I have chosen to plan out board 2, really late in term 3 I came up with a perfect idea which helps all the art pieces as one to create a visual story that people can interpret on their own. First I wrote down on a piece of paper what each art pieces are going to be and where they are going to go. So on board 1, I will start by introducing the devil and the angel as well as other parts of my art. Further down the board, I will add in pieces of art that help portray the theme of heaven and hell. At the bottom of the board, I will then add in trees representing life (good and evil) and I will then add in a tree that combines both of those concepts together to help show the combination of combining two opposites together to form one idea which will then lead to board 2. On board 2, heaven will be based at the top of the board, the earth will be based in the middle, and hell will be based at the bottom. Between heaven and earth will be the gate to heaven which slightly goes through earth. I have chosen to do this so that it remains connected instead of being two separate ideas. On each side of the gate will be two guardians. Between hell and earth, I will have a stream that flows up to earth and a boat with a demonic figure in gathering the souls of humans. Next will have demons on each side crawling their way up to heaven clawing at the guardian's legs.

During the holidays I came into art and I changed the layout of my theme. I decided that I was introducing the figures and objects in the board too early and I felt I needed to change that.  Instead of introducing the figures first (angels and demons) I made art pieces which introduce my idea of what heaven and hell looked like.

Before:

Here is my original artboard layout.
After:
Here is my final layout idea.

After planning out what my board 2 was going to look like, and how board one was going to be placed out, I went back to board one and made a start on my new art pieces which needed to be added to board 1, to finally complete it. First I search up "hell" on google images to help me with my ideas. Originally I had made up my own idea in my head but I decided that I wanted to get a proper idea of what hell looks like to someone else, and figure out a way to incorporate their idea as well as my own. I haven't put down the image from google down below as it is copyright but I will describe the image. The image displays a reddish, yellowish background setting, with black that fills the top of the image to help give the image a smokey feel. On the left side of the image, there is a cliff which shows human bodies being thrown into a fire pit which is down the bottom of the right page. Here is the art piece that I created below inspired by this image I found.

Holidays:

(It's the school holidays and I have had 4 days to come into art and use those days as opportunities to complete some of my artwork.)

For the past days at school, I have been practising how I am going to do my next image with multiple trials and errors I was finding it very difficult to complete this art piece. My idea was from an image online with stairways to heaven. The problems that I was having with this piece of artwork was that I was not able to form the right colour tones for the clouds, and I was struggling to move my paintbrush in a way to help show the shape and form of my clouds. I consistently kept trying and eventually, I figured out a way to form my clouds and instead of painting stairways to heaven I decided to do a gateway to heaven which made it much more easier for me to complete this artwork. So I came in during the holidays and decided to make a start on my next piece of art.

First I grabbed a piece of paper that I had already cut out and prepared. Next, I painted it baby blue and then started to add in white around the sides of the piece of art. I used a dry brush to help me form the shape of my clouds and continued to move it into a circular motion until I was satisfied with my clouds. To help my clouds stand out I then added a darker blue tone behind that clouds so that they would pop out more. Not long after it dried I sketched a gate off google onto my art piece and changed some parts of the gate to make it my own original idea. Afterwards, I painted the gate in gold as I hoped it would help project the obvious idea that it is the gateway to heaven. Finally, I waited for it to dry and then my art piece was completed.

Draft (One of my trials as evidence of practice):

After creating my first art piece that indicated some sort of connection to heaven, I then moved on to the next piece. This piece of art I wanted to do something that doesn't exactly tell you straight away what the theme is but slowly helps to introduce my theme and ideas into what I wanted to portray. I chose to sketch out some dove birds onto a piece of paper. If you pay attention to this piece of art separately it doesn't entirely make sense as to what the theme could be. But once I placed the doves next to the golden gate, it made the theme a bit more clear as to what the theme could be. I made sure that this art piece wasn't too obvious and I wanted them to have a symbolic meaning, like my artist models used in their work, e.g Jerry Uelsmann. The doves symbolise love, peace or as messengers, and I thought that was something perfect to use in my artwork. The way I created these doves is by simply looking at artist models and the way the drew their doves and what other aspects they use to help make their doves look simple and elegant at the same time. For example, Pablo Picasso created the Peace dove in 1961 December 28. The thing I loved about his artwork was that it looked so simple but there was more meaning behind the dove itself, and that is where I decided to draw my doves onto the paper and just lightly shade in parts of the birds to help them stick out a little bit more. It sounds very simple which it is and there was no trials and errors with this art piece as I felt happy with the only piece that I had started on. I also chose to use a different art media instead of paint as I wanted to do something different, and keep it simple still and not over complicate the work.

Here is how it turned out:

Backtracking:
Next, I went back to an art piece that I wasn't happy with although I had already completed it and should have made a start on something else, I thought that it was necessary to go back and fix this piece as I didn't think it stood out enough.

Inspiration:
The thing that Inspired me to create an art piece with ripped pieces stuck back together was from the artist model Man Ray, this is because he also creates images using multiple pieces of different images and other aspects and then sticks them together to form one piece. Because of how he does it I liked the idea and decided that I wanted to incorporate that into my artwork as well. Down below is an image of one of his artworks that he created by using different pieces and combining them to form one.

Hannah Höch, Für ein Fest gemacht (Made for a Party) 1936

How I modified it:

First I decided that the reddish/brownish colour wasn't as vibrant as I wanted it to be I felt that it didn't stand out enough and there wasn't much to it, although I had incorporated a ripped texture to it I still felt that this piece needed to stand out. I wasn't going to move onto another piece until I fixed this piece. So I grabbed a painted brush and grabbed the most reddish paint I could find and I painted in between the cracks with a dry brush and just with those little touches, it looked 5x better.

Moving on/Starting on the third tree:

This idea wasn't something I found online, I created this idea using the 2 other trees that I created. The meaning behind this particular tree is bad in the good and the good in the bad. What this means to me is that nothing is ever 100% bad there is always going to be some kind of good within and that nothing is ever 100% good and that there will always be bad in the good because nothing is perfect. So creating this third tree is a combination of both trees but I changed the colours a bit so that the tree was also separate to the other two. This tree also represents the combination of three worlds, the good, the bad, and the good and bad. This is where I can easily transition into my next board, where there is heaven, earth, and hell. The 3 worlds that those three trees represent.

How I created this art piece:

First I roughly sketched out a line just as a guide to show me where I will be painted. Next, I then painted the right side of the paper red and the left side of the paper black. On top of the black, I painted the tree in complete white and continued to paint it white while flicking my brush upwards to help form the branches. I then did the opposite and painted black on top of the red base colour, and then I continued to flick my brush but in a downward direction so that the tree branches hung downwards. After doing that I painted inside of both trees using the opposite colour so white in black and black in the white to represent good in the bad and the bad in the good. Finally, my artwork was completed to my satisfaction.

Term 4:

(Term 4 we had 1 week to finish our entire artboard so this is where you will see a lot more work than I have gotten done during week 1 of term 4, and that there is going to be a lot more information that I have written below for you to read. I am going to do the days as well so you have an exact timeline of when I did each piece of art.)

Monday 14th of October:

For this piece of art, I took a watercolour piece of paper that I had already cut out and prepared and the reason I chose to use watercolour paper is that I like the texture and thickness of the paper to use to help me paint nicely. I used a base colour which was red and then I continued to add yellow to the red make sure I don't blend it in well but leaving brighter bits of yellow in my painting so that it pops more. I then dipped my brush in a thick layer of black paint and painted a squiggly line from the middle top right of the paper downwards which ended on the bottom of the paper. To add some clarity to the picture I painted some cracks down the bottom and it's basically like a way of seeing the inside of the ground, the ground without a cover. After that, I filled the left side in black and then drew a vertical straight line going through the reddish-orange background. The black line is used as a pole in my painting which holds up a sign saying "Fire Pit Ahead". I created the sign by taking popsicle sticks and burning them in a fire around the edges to give it a really old and burnt look. I made the black like seem as if it was forming the shape of a cliff.  Next, I stuck down the sticks using paint and waited for the painting to dry and then it was finished and I was able to move onto my next piece of work.

Images of How I created the sign:

Next art piece:

With this particular art piece, I feel it is one of my favourites, and I say this because I feel it is bright, obvious and gives clarity as to what we are seeing. I love how there are much more colours in this piece of art. It stands out more and makes me feel happy thoughts and that is what I hope it does to other people.

How I created this art piece:

To create this art piece I painted 3/4's of the paper from the bottom white and 1/4 of the paper baby blue. After doing this, I then slowly added in from the white pink and then blue, giving it some tone around the edges etc.. To the sky I added in yellow, purple and blue and then painted over that with white paint forming a cross. This idea was inspired by images that I found. I searched up things that associated around heaven and used those ideas that caught my eyes and incorporated them in own piece of art. For example, one of the images showed a cross floating in the sky and I took that idea but instead of making the cross float in the sky I decided to form the clouds into the shape of a cross. This is how I was able to create my idea and form it into a piece that I was happy with.

(Sorry I wasn't able to rotate the image due to complications with blogger)

 Tuesday 15th of October:

I needed to design and paint a piece which only showed the colour themes of two worlds (heaven and hell) to do this I painted half the image black and half the image blue. To add tone to this piece of art I added white to the blue as well as a darker blue and lightly blended those colours in. I then painted a strip of red going right through the middle of the paper overlapping the blue and black paint. After doing this I next added yellow to the red to help give it that hot feeling to it. I then dipped my paintbrush into the black paint and went over the red forming cracks. This was to help split those worlds. I also chose to do this as adding the cracks into this image will help the cracks consistently show throughout my board so that I could use it inboard 2 and show how I developed my idea of cracks through my art pieces.

This is what it turned out to look like:
(Again I had complications with turning this image around)

Board 1 Completed :)

With satisfaction board one was finally done and I so happy to have completed my work and what needed to be done was finally done. It was a proud moment for me. :) !!!!!!!

Here is Board 1:

Wednesday 16th October:

I started off by grabbing my cut out of paper that I cut out back in term 3 when I was preparing all my measurements and shapes of paper that I needed. I grabbed the 3 long pieces of paper that I used to help paint/draw each piece for each world. The first strip I did a base coat of blue to help me start it off, the second strip I did a base coat of black at the bottom and red at the top, the last strip I left blank as I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do. After the base coat on strip 1 dried I then added in white to the bottom and kept blending it into the blue. I wanted to make sure that I incorporated things from board one onto board two, to help show my development throughout time, and show that I have taken things from board one and used those ideas in my next board. This helps to portray a good connection between board one and board two. In strip one, I added the cross to it which is a familiar object that I have used before in board one and I also added the dove into the strip as I felt that was a piece that needs to be added to it too. I also took the idea of using popsicle sticks and forming a ladder out of the sticks which helps connect earth to heaven.

With Strip two I also used a popsicle stick and the burning method to form a sign that said "No swimming" on it. This was to add a bit of humour to my artwork. I wanted to keep in mind that I still needed to focus on my artist models and how they fit into my artwork. The way I did this was by making sure I included things that symbolised something, (because the artist's models I have chosen work around surrealism and use figures and objects as a way of symbolising something) and object that I used was a boat and a river that streams through strip 2 onto other art pieces. The boat represents 'the collector of souls' which is my own personal interpretation of what the boat means. I also added things into strip 2 such as diving boards (again for humour) and human legs and body parts that are frying in the hot molten lava.

In strip 3 I needed to figure out a way to show the audience some clarification that this art piece represents the earth. My way of doing that was to paint a hill with a tree that's beautiful and blooming. I took a dry brush and dapped onto the branches really roughly to help give it that messy look but also make the flowers in the tree stand out more. I then again added a ladder made out of popsicle sticks to the right top of strip 3 so that it is also another entrance to "another world" being heaven. Down below the bottom right side of the piece I connected the river that the boat from strip 2 flows through so that the earth is also connected to hell. Lastly, I drew in some gravestones on the hill as I tried to make it obvious that either heaven and hell were collecting bodies from those gravestones. Finally, strip 3 was finished.

Strip One:
Strip Two:
Strip Three:
 The Guardians:

First I sketched out the guardians and deliberately faced one guardian looking towards the left and the other guardian looking towards the right. These guardians are my way of creating "Gods" which are also meant to be angels which are inspired by Jerry Uelsmann who uses angels in his work to help symbolise certain things like security, or protection. Next, I applied baby blue paint the same colour as the clouds to the guardians as I didn't want them to have a natural skin colour tone because people might mistaken them for humans. After applying the blue to their skin I then painted around their bodies and weapons with a dark blue. Using this dark blue it helped the guardians to stick out more vividly. While adding dark blue to the outlines of the guardians I then added in white blending it out so that you can see tone, and contrasting in the colours.

Next piece: This piece I wanted to do as I felt that it should just be there. To make sure that the piece contrasted with the guardians I painted the sides of the painting light blue as the colour got lighter around the guardians it projects out which then blends into the next piece that I have created.

I created it by continuing to add more blue towards the middle but then I got light as I worked my way in. I then painted some stairs using a dark blueish colour tone and then used some white and yellow to create a shinning effect by flicking my brush strokes up quickly.

The stairs represent the stairway to heaven and the guardians are protecting those stairways. The reason why I wanted the stairs to represent the stairway to heaven is that I was inspired by Jerry Uslemann an artist who works around surrealism and likes to use his artwork in a way that helps to portray a very powerful meaning. Uslemann uses his figures and focal points as a way to do so. That is why I came up with the idea to create these stairs. I did not want them to seem ordinary and I needed them to have a bigger meaning behind them. They aren't just stairs to another door, these are stairs to another world, but this is how I've chosen to interpret them but I also want to leave a door open for imagination and that's where I'd like the audience to have their own view and perspective on what it means to them and how they can relate, such as, do they believe there really is a stairway to heaven and many other ideas. This is my reason for art and I really believe this is why Uslemann creates art too.

I noticed and gathered a better understanding of why my main artist model works in a particular way. Jerry Uslemann used a lot of dark colours in his artwork and brighter colours around the focal point. The reason why he did this was to help the focal point stand out more and really catch the eye of the audience. Not only did he use lighter colours to help the focal point stand out but Uelsmann uses his figures and objects as a way to help symbolise something. We see this in one of his famous artworks Homage to Man Ray. We can also see that Uelsmann is acknowledging another artist models and that his artwork is also inspired by other artist models. Uelsmann consistently uses dark tones in his work, and that is one of my inspirations as to why I have chosen to use a lot more darker tones. By using darker tones and brighter colours around the focal point he creates a more in-depth feeling towards his artwork. It brings an emotional effect to the audience as well as a really powerful message with some artwork of his. If you'd like to see more about the Homage to Man Ray check out the link below.

Friday 18th October: (Yes I am aware that I have skipped Thursday but on Thursday I did nothing.)

So today has been a very busy day in art where I have gathered all my pieces I have completed so far and placed them down on my artboard. The spray glue did not end up working for me as I was a bit late to use them because by the time I got there it was used. Anyways as another alternative, I used double-sided tape and placed them down on the back of each art piece and placed them down and then I was left with three more pieces of artwork to complete.

Board Development:

Demon Hands: These two pieces of art that I designed and created were really fun to do.  It was something that I created that was very different from my other pieces. The first thing I did was search up hands that way I was able to look at them and draw from that perspective and understand how I was going to position the hands in a way that suited me. Next, I took a piece of material, cut the material up into small pieces. After doing that, I scrunched up the piece and shaped them to the same size and shape of the hands. Using PVA glue, I stuck the material down and painted over it with more PVA glue to make sure it was secure. once it dried I paint around the hands black and used a dark red to paint the hands. I wanted to give it a really roughly look so I used a dry brush and dabbed paint onto the material. To form the claws I mixed white and black together to make grey and then painted on the claws at the tips of the fingers. Finally, I repeated the same step on another piece of paper and positioned the hand in the same direction that the other hand is facing. So that they are both coming in from the sides into the middle. I made sure that by doing this it was unusual and related to surrealism, which Jerry Uelsmann and Ray Hammond both use in their art, like angels and demons.
This is what It turned out to look like:

THE LAST PIECE!!!!!
Lastly, I have my final art piece to do which is the river and that would be the river that connects hell and earth together. To do this one I had to make sure the river connects to hell and earth and fits perfectly between them. I also needed to make sure that it blended in with the hands as they should fit like itś meant to be one piece.

How I created this art piece:
What I needed to do first was paint on a base colour (which was black) and then wait for the paint to dry so that I could paint over it. I then painted a red making sure it connected to the bottom of the earth and the top of hell. After that, I added yellow to it and then surrounding the rivers I added in my cracks again which you already know how I make/design those if you have read the previous explanations above. After that, the piece was completed.

Personal Comment:
After a long and stressful process, I had finally completed my board. Although I could have done better in some areas, I wasn´t going to let those faults pull me down as I should be proud of the board that I had created. I also felt that there were lots of amazing boards that were completed and I loved how people created their pieces using their artist models as well. I am very satisfied with my artwork whether it is just an achieved or not I am proud and that is something to be happy about. I have learnt a lot about art during the process, as there were some complications and I had to learn how to overcome them which I did. It just letś me know as a person never give up just keep going, no matter how many stops and bumps you come across you have to get over them and just keep pushing through it which I did and now this is the outcome of my board and what it looks like.

This is what it looks like my final Outcome:

What my board means:

My board first starts off as the first 6 pieces help to introduce the theme, which is hell and heaven. Next, my board introduces the figures such as angels and demons as well as the setting of where they will be based around. After that, I used trees as a way to symbolises life and death. The first tree represents life the second tree represents death. The next tree helps us to transition into combining the three worlds. By combining good and bad (heaven and hell) we get to earth. Next, the board introduces all three worlds as one whole structure. The way I was able to line these worlds together was by using things such as ladders and rivers/stairways to help connect these three together and this is what my board turn out to look like. :)
