Home-ec









Today in class we made a word art about carbohydrates, you should have at least 60% in your body which is 6 servings a day.  
Like wise i could have at least 12 weetbix which will give me the right amount of carbohydrates.

Investigating solubuility

Aim: To investigate. the solubility of baking soda (sodium hydrogen carbonate) and table salt  (sodium chloride) to see which is most soluble in water.



Method:
Fill beaker up with water to 100 mL .
Add a level teaspoon of baking soda. A level teaspoon is obtained by running your ruler cross the. edges of the teaspoon.
Stir till the baking soda has dissolved .
Repeat 2 and 3 until baking soda has stopped dissolving.
Record how many tablespoons were added.
Repeat this method with table salt.

Amount of tablespoons added:
Baking soda: 1
Table salt: 3


Result 
Solute.         Number of teaspoons that dissolved in 100 mL of water.
Baking soda: 0
Table Salt:2

Conclusion: We have discovered that table salt is more soluble than baking soda because salt dissolved and baking soda didn't.

Filtration-Separating a Solid Mixed with a Liquid.



Equipment: Funnel, filter paper, sand beaker water.

Result: We put water and sand into another beaker and filtered out the sand. The result was that the water came out clear and left the sand in a pile.

Conclusion: This means that these are two different components and it was a mixture that we separated into two things.

Waves & Energy

Energy's Transformation:
There are many types of different kinds of energy for example (Light energy, sound energy, kinetic energy etc...) Energy is measured in Joules (J) Energy cannot be seen or touched but we can observe the effects it has on objects.
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. Energy can transform into another substance of energy, energy that has been transformed is called (Law of Conservation of Energy) Energy transformations is all the change that happen around you. For Example when you have a device the potential energy in the battery is turned into electrical energy. Electrical energy: ( Energy that is then turned into light energy for the screen and the sound energy for the speaker. 

Wasted Energy:
Sometimes energy is wasted e.g when energy is transformed from one kind to another, some of the initial energy is transferred to a form which isn't useful or even wanted. Think about a light bulb, after a period of time it is hot. Which means some of the electrical energy has been transformed into heat and the energy transfer is Electrical energy-Light energy-Heat energy.

What is a Wave?
There are two types of waves Transverse and longitudinal these waves a very different to each other. Longitudinal waves cannot be seen, these waves vibrate parallel to the direction they are heading too. These waves stretch out and you can hear these waves another name for it is called a sound wave. Transverse ways are ways you can see like the waves in the ocean, they travel up at a 90' to the direction they are travelling. These are two examples of a transverse wave 1. Light waves 2. Ocean waves these waves are the best example of a transverse wave. 


Measuring waves:
Amplitude, Wavelength, and Frequency are three types of measuring waves.
For starters amplitude is the height of the crest or trough of a wave when measured from the rest position. Wavelength is the maximum distance between two crests or troughs.Frequency is the number of waves that pass a point in one second. Measured in Hertz (HZ).
